Maxthon Web Browser App Reviews
Does not work… keep getting stupid errors so i will just stick with firefox as at least that is stable and operational. Chrome keeps crashing and safari has the same issues as maxthon so obviously… i don’t even bother using either.
cannot find extensions, get this message every time I try to install…. Youll need latest version of Maxthon browser to install extensions and skins. Get Maxthon Now! No way to download videos, no options menu to be found anywhere, no response from customer Service, so far it does absolute nothing that any other browser does. Says to download and install version 413 to use the very few extensions that seem to appear. Very poor support and virtually no instruction.
Could you pleaseeeeee update this browser on Mac? I really want to use it on all my devices. Pro: it’s SMOOTH. As smooth as Safari! No other third-party browser scrolls as smooth as Safari Con: Cannot sync credit card info cross-platform (chrome and safari have this feature). Password sync doesn’t transfer over to Maxthon cross platform either. The smartphone OS from Mountain View, CA. Google Talk Plugin (for Hangout) doesn’t work Google Search interface really old Some others that I cannot remember at the moment. Will update.
英語: Windows version is powerful, but in OSX is under powered. Here’s a list of lack of features compared the windows version : - No cloud downloads. Cannot access my download stored on my cloud. Unlike Windows version, download manager cannot resume broken downloads. - Bookmark function buggy under OSX. Problem loading bookmarked from another device, example from PC. When bookmarking page from OSX, in shows in other Windows PC, but from another PC it won’t show in OSX. - Cannot change browser user agent. - Cannot add custom/modified search engine Until everything fixed, it won’t became my default browser for now. At least make cloud download available, since it’s core function why i’m using Maxthon. Thank you.
Faster than Chrome
Reload gesture function does not working.
First problem at start
This browser doesn’t remember the screen position. Mac Mini 2,6 Ghz - 2014 - Yosemite
This browser could be a game-changer in browsers war. Except, that it’s not: it uses a very old engine (so old that Google shows its old UI) and crashes a lot (tested on OS X Yosemite).
No home page, no extensions, not even as good as Safari which in turn isnt as good as either Chrome or Firefox. If you are looking for an interesting alternative browser, check out the new Chrome Developers Edition Browser. Nothing really new, but it comes with free VPN. Thats something nobody else has.
The Maxthon browser is very fast and very lightweight. Installing it via the Mac App Store means there is no way (as far as I can tell) to install add-ons, which is a significant limitation, but for security reasons I feel better installing it via the App Store. So, all things considered, this is a welcome alternative browser.
lag
Still lag when scrolling, mean not smooth as safari. And please bring flash player pop out feature like windows platform browser.
Maxthon is fast and runs on everything I have including my Mac (obviously), Windows Phone, my Linux boxes, etc… It uses a combination the webkit and the Trident engine and WebKit so think if you combined Internet Explorer and Chrome. Only complaint is that this version is missing features such as to Import Bookmarks. I had to download directly from Maxthon to get the up-to-date version.
original better
browser is flaky. never stops loading. no way to control cookies etc. needs lots of work.
The browser at its core is a good browser. Going to the maxthon extension store and clicking the “install” button just downloads a .crx file, and does not install anything to the browser. I used the classic maxthon browser (pre-app store) and it worked, extensions and all. It doesn’t break the browser, but it is annoying to not have extensions.
Maxthon 4.4: no extensions, no security
This browser has no extensions and no security settings. I dumped it and returned to the older version.
I downloaded Maxthon while recovering from surgery. So I was bored. My computer is from mid 2010 I think. A little sluggish,so I was on the hunt for light-weight browsers. Fast, reliable, fairly secure (I worry less about security because I wouldn’t personally rely on a web browser alone to be secure with my data — which turned out to be okay because I didn’t feel that there were a lot of security features to be found here. This did not bother me at all.) Anyway. when I say this is — or was — a lightweight app, what I mean to say is that it had the footprint of a really, really small toolshed relative to the footprint of say — a large medical facility {Safari, for instance) or a ridiculously World War 1 bunker — ineffeciency and all — (I think we know what explorer of the internet that metaphor speaks to), you get the idea. Activity monitor gives me a reading of about 115MB of memory usage for Safari while it’s “at rest”. To compare - I think opera starts at 421 (seriously) and keeps rising until my laptop starts to smolder (less serious). Maxthon rests with an astonishing 17MB of memory consumed. This is not an error. That’s Seventeen. Too good to be true, you say? We’ll see. Well, it’s not too good to be true, as it were — but what seems to happen, while maxthon jumps up to a still-respectable-consumtion of about 90MB of memory — There’s a couple of “helpers” that seem to fire up with it while browsing and these are ///enormous///. Like — nevermind the WWi bunker. They eat up so much RAM that I — a human being at rest in front of a computer — will get sleepy just imagining how hard the-little-memory-sticks-that-can’t-but-will-try-until-they-explode are working. I think the total memory consumption if I’m watching something on youtube (or listening to it) and reading a long article can be as high as 1.4GB. I’m going to give the app 3 stars anyway. This might be an issue with my configurations somehow. It could be something I need to look at more carefully. Plus, this app loads web pages faster than any browser I’ve used before. Remember when you first got a cable/T1/whatever modem that isn’t dial-up and you were stunned at the speed? Kinda like that. It’s efficient that way. It’s very nice to look at. Great support community. It’s really a great app. I hope the memory consumption is fixable, because It will absolutely be my go-to browser. Based on how well everything else works, and that it’s bloody free — give it a try for yourself and see how it goes.
- .pdf saving and printing from websites doesnt work properly - inability to search for the selected and dragged text on the new tab (this function worked great in the old version of the software) - no extension center - links to external sites doesnt work properly Huge plus is a speed of operation.
When I browse to a typical site that requires a login, a window pops up asking for a name/pw. After these are correctly supplied, the login succeeds, and the page appears; but the prompt window for name/pw remains in front. And there is no way to close the name/pw window. And then when I quit the application, the application fails to quit. The only remedy is a force quit. Then when I relaunch the Maxthon app, it remembers the last page visited, so it again pops up the login window. Hopeless loop.
its ok but not what i was expected i am now happy that it maked it on the app store since i wasnt trusting it at first but apple devs check it so i am ok with it
An email from the developer says they are no longer developing the Mac app. What I had written about was to ask why the app does not support the import of bookmarks/favorites. Otherwise (development aside) the app would be a three or maybe close to four. I like the user interface better than Safari, and Maxthon feels definitely quicker. The Help is not very thorough, however.
Snapscreen by Dingtalk?
Every time I launch Maxthon, it tries to launch Snapscreen by Dingtalk, an app that doesn't even exist on my system. A program should never try to launch a third party program without offering some clear palce to disable that program if you don't need. I just cancel that security notification, but that's very disconcerting
DOESNT SUPPORT FACEBOOK
You have to fix the bugs!
Can't even update profile photo on facebook
What a annoying browser, can't even upload a photo to update profile photo on facebook.
Dangerous!
This browser tried to record my macbook screen! Is this compromised?
Too Much Lags for M1
I've read that Maxthon is one of the lightest web browser for mac, but whenever I want to open anything even in settings, It makes me wait until it loads.
It does perform better than safari
Safari does not always use ram efficiently which can cause problems in the middle of a flow. This browser works fine where safari fails. That said, the browser wants an email address and number at start up. Though this can be skipped by logging in as a guest.
Parents shouldn’t allow their children to be underachievers
This browser isn’t much to be proud of, however it does work. Alernate browsers were made to streamline your internet experience and make it more beneficial for the user. Instead your privacy will be breached when they ask for your phone # or email and you will be shown ads. I haven’t seen a Google ad in nearly 20 years; ever since the technology has been out to block them and can assure you they are a turn off. Otherwise look for a browser that will protect you from them. It is almost 2021, technology is better than this and if this is as good as it gets the world is on a horrible decline. If you are used to watching ads and have no problem wasting your time… give it a try. ps… I never new there were 3rd party ads all over youtube until I installed this junk. People need to stop accepting the low quality and poor experience the world is giving them.
No privacy
The problems with this browser begin at start-up. It asks for my email or phone number. Sorry, but I shouldn't have to provide such information just to use a browser. No matter how good the browser, if it breaks my privacy, it's pretty worthless to me.
Works flawlessly for me
I have tried two other browsers on my Mac (all from Apple) that are giving me issues. This is the only browser that worked flawlessly on a web-hosting website that I use to edit my webpage.
Better in the Past
I used to love Maxthon because of how organized it was to do the job right. When you opened the menu, the most important things were there pinned on the top. The layout now is still nice, but Maxthon did away with features that were there prior. What happened to Extensions? What happened to Skins? What happened to the sidebar? Are they not part of Maxthon anymore? I also used to love the way to organize bookmarks, but it has been replaced with this Maxnote, which has a more webnote feel than a bookmark feel to it. Maxthon just doesn’t feel the same anymore, and I really wish the changes to the newer things wouldn’t be so extreme.
Very Bad
this is app not work
New Update
The new update is terrible.
am unable to authenticate with my iphone
I’ve used Maxthon for many years, initially on Windows. Since getting a new retina MacBook Pro with Sierra I’ve exclusively used Safari as my defalt browser but decided to give Maxthon another shot. Apparently Maxthon requires 2nd party authentication to “register” browser installation. No problem, merely enter my iPhone number and wait for a code, right? Third try, 10 minutes later and I’m still waiting.
A very excellent and potential browser with personally feartured functions
this is a really good browser, what it presents in UI and UX really blows me up. The Maxnote is totally free which is a priority for me to take place Evernote. May it a better development~Fingercross~
stoppd working
This is a great browser been using it since 2010. my mac kept annoying me to update it for months now and i finally did and it crashed it now it wont open the interface but shows up opened on the top bar then crashes after a few seconds PLEASE FIX IT !!
It crashes on launch
The app crashes on launch, so worthless obivously.
Garbage
This browser is terrible. I don't understand why they even bothered making it. Crashes all the time. Doesn't remember tabs when you reopen, whether it crashed or not. Doesn't show you a link URL when you hover or click. Try to save a jpg, it only saves an HTML page or webarchive. So worthless. Use anything else.
unexpectedly quits on launch
I had the previous version that worked well for a while, but started quitting on launch. I deleted and downloaded this version. It does the same unexpected quit on launching. MacOS 10.12.5 installed on MacBook Air.
Promising app
After downloading and trying out Maxthon, I see that it's based on Google Chrome. It has a long way to go before it's a full time browser for my every day use, but it's already well ahead of other browsers in features so I'm giving it 4 star.
No more development, no bookmark import
An email from the developer says they are no longer developing the Mac app. What I had written about was to ask why the app does not support the import of bookmarks/favorites. Otherwise (development aside) the app would be a three or maybe close to four. I like the user interface better than Safari, and Maxthon feels definitely quicker. Umm
its ok but not what i was expected i am now happy that it maked it on the app store since i wasnt trusting it at first but apple devs check it so i am ok with it
Better but not a perfect
- .pdf saving and printing from websites doesn't work properly - inability to search for the selected and dragged text on the new tab (this function worked great in the old version of the software) - no extension center - links to external sites doesn't work properly Huge plus is a speed of operation.
